Press Cutting - 17th December 2004 minibusHigh flier’s plan to expand workforce - 17th December 2004 A SUCCESSFUL van and minibus centre that has been at full throttle in its first two years of trading is driving forward with major expansion plans. David Fishwick LDV Van and Minibus Sales, which opened last year, is already bursting out of it headquarters on Byron Road, Colne. So the multi-million pound company is planning to expand outwards and upwards to keep up with the boom in business, which has seen sales soar and staff numbers increase from just three to 15, and counting. Work has now started on transforming the single-storey sales sites into a two-storey building to make room for more offices. Fishwick’s, which is the biggest supplier of 17 seater minibuses in Europe, has also acquired more land at the back of the existing site and another plot in Colne to garage its growing fleet. Nelson-born businessman David Fishwick, who owns the company, recently opened a holding site in Birmingham for his stock and has a conversion plant in Stockport. His schedule is so packed that he often saves time by using his helicopter. He said: “It’s been incredible considering we build the business from scratch. We’ve got a reputation for being very competitive and for our luxury conversions which are popular with the executive market. Word has spread like wildfire about the business and we’ve sold to buyers from all over the country. We trade from the Hebrides to the tip of Cornwall and we also sell to operators in the Isle or Man, Ireland and even Malta.” The business, which sells vans and minibuses from £3000 to £50000 is putting Pendle on the map and recently featured in a glowing report in a top trade magazine. It sells conventional vans, but specialises in converting both LDV and Mercedes Benz vans into luxury mini-coaches as well as adapting minibuses to cater for specific disabilities. “Being a helicopter pilot has been a big advantage because I am able to fly anywhere at a moment’s notice to look at vehicles and if I like what I see then I’ll buy them there and then. I’ve been able to get some very good deals and keep prices down – that’s one of the reasons we’re so popular and it’s on of the reasons we are growing” he said. |
