Children’s centre given a minibus - 22nd October 2004

YOUNGSTERS at Pendle’s biggest children’s centre will soon be spreading their wings… thanks to the generosity of a local motor dealership.
Walton Lane children’s centre in Nelson caters for more than 600 children. The centre provides age appropriate activities for children mainly aged up to five, but also in their late teens.
The centre also provides nursery, after-school, and holiday care for youngsters whose parents are busy at work.
Later this year, the centre is moving to new, larger premises, and will be able to care for more youngsters.
And now thanks to David Fishwick LDV Vans and Minibuses of North Valley Road Colne, the youngsters will be able to have a more active experience; Mr. Fishwick said “As a company we are keen to help in the community where we can. When the centre contacted us about purchasing a minibus, we saw how beneficial it would be to the youngsters and we decided to part-sponsor it. We already sponsor Burnley FC and Colne FC, in addition to a number of smaller sponsorships – it’s our way or supporting the community in which we live and work.”
Dawn France, head of education at Walton Lane, said: “David Fishwick and everyone involved have been very generous. The minibus is essential for us. We serve six primary schools in Pendle and we need to be able to transport the children to the centre in order for them to access the after school care.”
