Press Cutting - 20th August 2004 minibusMark Back in the Hot Seat - 20th August 2004 Thanks to his employer, David Fishwick LDV Van Centre in Colne. Mark has been able to achieve a long held ambition and build his own racing car. And now the 47-year-old franchise manager is having the time of his life racing his way around the country’s major racetracks to compete in the 750 Motorsport Club National Championship league. Mark, from Nelson said: “I used to race motorbikes about 20 years ago, but then I got married and had children and didn’t have the time for it.” “But now my children are grown up I have more time so I decided to fulfil my ambition and build and race my own car.” Even though Mark races in what is called the ‘Low Cost Championship”, it is still an expensive hobby which is where David Fishwick came in. “David heard me talking about building the car and my ambitions of racing in the national championship. But it is a very expensive business – it cost me a small fortune to build the car and then getting to all the races and maintaining the car doesn’t come cheaply either. Kindly, he stepped in to support me,” said Mark. “Getting behind the wheel of the car, lining up on the starting grid is so exciting, such an adrenaline rush – it feels good to be back out there.” Although it is his first season back on the track Mark is doing well. His best result came when he finished 14th out of 32 at Pembrey in South Wales. His next race is at Silverstone. David Fishwick added: “Mark is an important part of my business and contributes a lot to my success here so I was please to be able to support him. We all think he’s done a brilliant job with the car. It looks great and he is getting somegood results – we’re all cheering him on.” |
